I'm Gonna Tear Your Playhouse Down is a song written by Earl Randle and first recorded in 1972 by Ann Peebles.

"This (I'm Gonna Tear Your Playhouse Down) was staying true to the concept of finding rare soul songs and giving them a reworking. It just got wilder and wilder as it went on. We decided it should be a tougher song, because the lyrics are tough. We got Mark Pinder [drummer] out in the studio with a great big sheet of metal, which we suspended, and he whacked it with a metal hammer, which we sampled for the record. Those were the things that made recording fun." - Quote by Paul Young, May 2013, from the liner notes of the 2-CD collection Remixes And Rarities first released in 2013 by Cherry Pop Records, Cat. No. CRPOPD128.
